Objects of Design #17: Industrial Twist Stool

Ever since my beloved Singer sewing machine stool collapsed with metal fatigue (or the 11-year-old’s persistent swinging) we have been hunting for a replacement. I haven’t given up hope that a foundry might be able to do a repair job, but even then we have decided that two stool aren’t enough. The thing about our kitchen is that everybody gravitates to the island, which is perfect, but there are only two stools (or there were) and that means that I’m usually left standing, along with Him Outdoors. So more stools are needed.

I think we could store one under the mail boxes and the far end and even a fourth in one of those cupboards to the left of the picture which has no shelves and was intended to double up as a sort of desk where you can push the stool back into the cupboard after you’ve done.

So anyway, this is the stool I want. You can adjust the height, the industrial style fits perfectly in my kitchen, but is right on trend for yours too and can even be used as a table for resting drinks in another room.

This time last year the kitchen essential was the best spatula
