Objects of Design #210: Embrace Storage Unit, Table and Stool

mult-tasking furniture

Yesterday I spoke about multi-tasking furniture (yes I did, did you read to the end?) and while I know that many of you are reluctant to spend lots of money on items that your children will grow out of in ten minutes, there are pieces out there that will really go the distance.

This is one of those pieces. Now, I will admit that I was a bit slow on the uptake here as I have seen the top picture several times and assumed it was inspired by the Isokon Penguin Donkey (available at Nest ) so I didn’t take much notice.

But then I saw some other images and I realised that it’s exactly what I was talking about yesterday. Clip the pieces together and it’s a bookshelf, that you can perch on with a cup of coffee beside you.

Or you can unclip them and you have a low table and stool that’s perfect for a child. Or even two low tables if you’re having one of those weekends when your mother in law is there and she needs to be able to reach for her glass and put her feet up at the same time. Yes, those weekends.

So, anyway, the point is that this is a very clever piece of furniture. It was designed by John Green, who has done lots of other clever things, and you can buy it from Mocha UK for £275, which, if you have been paying attention to the longevity of the piece, is not that much at all.
