Objects of Design #257: Indian Kantha Throws

Despite the rather summery picture, these vintage Indian Kantha throws are the perfect winter accessory.

Indian kantha throws all colours
Indian kantha throws come in all colours

Drape them over the sofa for a touch of winter warmth, throw them over the bed at night or, for the more crafty-minded among you, turn them into cushion covers.

They are available from Rebecca’s Aix Home and cost £85. They’re handmade in India from vintage saris sewn together with a tiny running stitch known as a kantha stitch.

Each one is the size of a single bed, so it will add colour to a double when draped across the foot end. Or you can sew two together.

Rebecca’s shop is near Reading and she is happy for people to go along and choose the design they like, or pick one from the site.

  1. Amazing timing, I was looking yesterday to find Suzanni/Indian throws similar to the ones in Lee Radziwill’s tent-like sitting room decorated by Renzo Mongiardino. These are fab! Any other suggestions (apart from Robert Kime, John Robshaw or Joss Graham)? Thanks Kate
