Objects Of Design #291: Glass Dome

recycled glass dome for food or fantasy

I have been studiously ignoring this tendency to stick everything in glass domes, but then suddenly along came this dome, which is so pretty that not only did I have to feature it but I think I will have to buy it. I love the fact that it has been styled with cheese and grapes here, which means I can really see the point of it, as cheese really is better at room temperature. The dome also means that you can leave it out of the fridge and not have to worry about nine-year-old boys hacking bits off every time they sidle past, although I appreciate that might be a niche problem.

And now that I have finally found a dome I like, I find I am thinking about using it as a display item. After all it would save dusting. And, earlier this year I investigated the possibility of doing a taxidermy course and I think this would look great with a stuffed squirrel inside. Or maybe just a cake.

  1. I really love this dome and also have a nine year old boy/cheese hacking issue, but does he not just lift the dome up? Perhaps you could fit it with an alarm bell too. 🙂
