Objects Of Design #305: Hammered Brass Bowl

perfect for party food
perfect for party food

There are so many uses for this pretty brass bowl. Standing a few candles in it will bounce the light softly around. Fill it with nibbles for a party or with fruit the rest of the year. Or what about in the bathroom or on a dressing table for all those bits that seem to accumulate and never quite manage to find a home?

  1. hi kate just following on from your post re painted floorboards and apologies for harping on but did you varnish the boards once you had sanded and painted them? or did you mix a matt varnish with the paint? while i love the weathered look i am wondering how durable the emulsion on its own would be with my little tribe crashing around.

i love the farrow & balll winbourne white paint and may be able to swing a tin or two but do you think dulux may have something i could use to achieve the same effect? it’s such a drag having to watch every penny….. not sure what I would do without you hon x big thank you for your help x

    1. Hi Sam,
Sorry for not replying sooner – have been away. Anyway floorboards. If you buy floor paint there’s no need to varnish over the top. We bought the Farrow & Ball floor paint and, while it’s earbleedingly expensive, it has lasted very well and is very tough. My builder told me of a client who bought a cheaper version (I think mixed to match and not a label or trade name) and it chipped off very quickly. So it may be one of those areas where you get what you pay for. I’m sure you would be fine with a Dulux or similar as long as it’s floor paint which is inherently tougher than anything else. I have never heard of mixing emulsion with varnish but I think it won’t be strong enough.
I will try and find out some more information for you. KX
