Now before you scoff at the idea of a plastic outdoor rug, it is actually a very clever idea. It’s Swedish, does that help?
It’s incredibly practical, as they are non slip, making them perfect for kitchens and halls and even bathrooms. You can flip it over to reverse the design if you fancy a change. It’s water resistant and you can stick it in the machine.
The technique of weaving plastic carpets was begun in 1948 in Dalarna, Sweden and was later modernised by Pappelina, as new forms, colours and materials were added to the original process.
They now come in masses of designs and four different lengths too.

Hi Kate, Love your blog and I am very happy that you are featuring the Swedish plastic rug! As a Swedish ex-pat I am working hard to bring these fantastic rugs to Canada and the US. I know they can be hard to find and am happy to let you know that I offer Pappelina’s entire rug collection through my shop Truly Swedish Design. Did you know that these rugs also can be used outside during summer months and brought inside to your entry or other space during the winter months. If you live where there is snow, you’ll really appreciate how good looking and practical they are in your entry. Have fun discovering Pappelina rugs!
Hi Annika, thank you so much for your kind comments. I love these rugs. Also I have been looking for an outdoor rug for my deck for a while now and never thought that this would be the perfect solution. Thank you again, Kate
Hi Kate, So glad I could help. Have fun finding a Pappelina rug for your deck! Warmly, Annika
