Lighting is often the last element to be installed in a garden and, in many cases, is added as an afterthought. Professional garden designers will advise that you set aside part of the overall budget (around ten percent is what I was told) to spend on lighting.

It makes sense really because if you’re going to spend all that money on planting and landscaping and then some more on fabulous furniture, you want to be able to show it off at all times of the day and night.

Now it’s true that it can be expensive to install electricity and run wires and all that but you can achieve a very pretty effect with a few candles. I’m a bit wary of the naked flame in the breeze scenario, but these lanterns enclose the tea lights a little bit more so it’s a bit more protected from the wind.

Perfect for adding a little atmosphere to your evening. Buy as many as you can afford – three would be good – and cluster them. The large one is 55cm high by the way.
