I have wanted an outdoor floor light for years. It fits with my dream of the outdoor sitting room. Taking the inside outside as it were. This involves a sofa, which has been fantastically hard to find, I did eventually track one down and will be writing about soon but if you can’t wait it’s the Jonah from made.com. It had to be a sofa that looks as it it could live inside as well, which most of them don’t.
Then I flirted with the idea of an outdoor rug when we had the deck, but when that went to be replaced with these cobbles, there was no need for that. Then I found this light. A standard lamp but for outside. It completed the picture perfectly.
There is one tiny flaw. You have to turn it on at the wall which means I don’t get to be Monica from Friends every time I sit down but I can live with that.
Talking of turning it on – yes, it has a cable and a plug. We had a couple of outside sockets put in last year when we were installing the cobbles. You can just see it at the back of the picture by the tubs on the left hand side. The shade, by the way, is plastic and, for want of a better description, a sort of upturned bucket so no water can get in. It has a normal bulb that is completely protected. And I can tell you that about 48 hours after we plugged it in it rained for about 12 hours straight and everything was fine so I have no worries on that score.
It’s called the Elsa and it’s from Cox and Cox. Now if they could just fix a cord….
Hi,
Can you tell me if it is the two or three seater sofa?
By the way love the light as well as the sofa
It’s the two seater vesion x
Hi Kate – excellent feature, thank you; always interested in outdoor lighting!
Do you know what happened to the Edi rechargeable floor lamp? I tried to get one but wasn’t successful …
Still waiting! If I had known it would take this long…..
Wow – what a shame … it’s such a great idea and looked brilliant. Thanks for letting me know – I’ve occasionally tried to track one down but will stop holding my breath now.
I keep getting emails saying they are coming so I assume it will eventually – I think it has to…. I will email her again…
Ahh reminds me of one warm night last year when we took our floor lamps from the living room into the garden allowing the chit-chat to continue into the early hours….. As I live in Buxton however it was only for one night.
Hope so – fingers crossed …
Oops – I’ve replied to the wrong message: sorry!
Dear Kate,
Thank you very much for the information on this outdoor lamp. As much as I like the made couch, it was the lamp that made me flip my wig, from your original post of a few days back. I’m in the middle of revamping my (year round) LR. This lamp, besides functional, will be the wow factor. Thank you again.
PS: Cox and Cox should consider renaming this model. I’m thinking the Courtney.
I see this trend of indoor-outdoor living with these giant expanses of open glass doors and I always think, “what about the bugs?” I cannot open our screen door for more than a millisecond before a fly or mosquito will zoom in and take over the house. Do these walls of glass miraculously keep bugs away? And won’t your wonderful new outdoor lamp attract even more?
The lamp looks great. Is the base weighted? How stable is it when the wind gets up? You can also get smart LED bulbs that you can control remotely from your phone – so you don’t need the cord 🙂
Well the base is quite weighted. We haven’t really had much wind since we got it so I can’t answer for that one I’m afraid.
You NEED to check out the Aporia from B&Q. I’ve had it a year and it’s amazing. It isn’t a normal bulb which is great because it means I can change the shade anytime I like. It lets off a nice warm glow. It’s on a massive sale right now so everyone should buy one!!!
