Useful Stuff Part I: Create Your Own Table with these Clamp Legs

This week is turning out to be mostly dedicated to useful stuff. But that doesn’t mean boring. I don’t hold with the Marie Kondo theory of chucking everything out that doesn’t spark joy, but there are certain useful things than can definitely improve life when they look good. Or some that are just good ideas that you need to know about.

Take these metal clamp legs. I first wrote about them a couple of years ago, but then you could only buy them in France and ship them over. Which isn’t a deal breaker but it doesn’t mean you might think twice. Now they are in the UK and you could probably have them by Thursday which is a whole different thing. Basically a set of powder-coated steel metal legs with a clamp at the top. You choose one of two heights and find something to be the table – an old door, or a piece of painted mdf or what about a slab or marble worktop (that’s for a dining table idea) or a piece of tempered glass. There are as many possibilities as you can think of.

And the clever thing is that while the legs are the expensive bit, once you have bought them you can use them again and again as your needs change. Children’s desk to bedside table. Bedside table to hall bench. Hall bench to extra seating. Extra seating to … well you get the point.

The tall ones are £249 for a set of four and the shorter ones are £199  from Future and Found.

The only difficulty is choosing which colour you want – there is black, white, blush pink, dark green and yellow. And I need hardly mention that these are perfect for those of you in rental flats as you can adjust the size to fit and take them with you when you move. and, given the multitude of uses, you can change the top depending on the size of the room you are putting them in. Mind you, it’s not just for renters, they’re also great for kids’ rooms as their needs change along with their size.

So, it’s Tuesday. That’s the first useful thing. I hope you like it. I have a set in the garden that I have matched with a slab of waterproof concrete board as a garden table. I keep meaning to tile the top of the board with leftover tiles but I haven’t quite got round to it yet.

Still, tomorrow is another day. Drop in then to see the next useful thing I have found.

  1. I’m now awash with ideas of things to make the ‘top’ of little tables … exciting creativity opportunity! Brilliant, find. I LOVE a practical product. Thanks Kate.

  2. I did not know these existed! Perfect for my son who recently moved into his own apartment! Found them here in the U.S. (The Floyd Legs). I really enjoy your blog. I have also preordered your book…can’t wait!

  3. This is such a great, great site….it keeps on giving and giving. A joy to see and read. Thank you!

  4. I think these are fab, although it would be good if they were also height adjustable to make them even more flexible, and you wouldn’t need to choose between the two heights…

    1. I think that might be technically very difficult to do. They have aimed at table and seating which tend to be standard heights – desks are around 75cm I think and chairs around 47cm – that’s off the top of my head but it’s around that.
