Curved Floor Lamp

There will be no ceiling lights in the loft. We are leaving the rafters exposed and painting them and as it won’t have an enormous amount of height – why do we talk about lofty ceilings when usually, in lofts, they are anything but – we will be sticking to wall lights and floor lamps.

When it comes to the floor lamps I really fancy a curved one arching over the sofa. We’ve never had the space to do that before and it there are only going to be about three pieces of furniture in the room then each one needs to earn its keep.

Clearly, in an ideal lottery-funded world, I would have the Flos Arco floor light.

But it costs around £1,500 so I won’t. And I don’t want a copy. There are plenty of other great designs around without having a copy. So the question is – which one?

This is £300 from John Lewis. But I’m not sure about the white shade. The Bip lamp is £200 from Habitat and I saw it when I was shopping with a client the other day and loved it.

I rather like this one from Out There Interiors too, which costs £190.

But actually I wonder if, for once, I like the cheapest one best. This is £99 from made.com and its matt black finish is perfect.

There are many other very beautiful ones around but we’re not going over £500 for this. Actually who am I kidding. We’re not going over £300 (cue harrumphing from himself as he reads over my shoulder). Well all right £200. Actually I have always loved this one from Graham and Green. It’s £225…

Do you like any of these? I hope this has helped if anyone is looking for something similar on a budget.

  1. I love that G&G floor lamp. I used curved floor lamp in one of my projects in a conservatory and it looked really good in that space.

  2. We’ve been looking at curved floor lamps for the dining room section of our kitchen extension and I’ve seen all the lamps you mention and even sourced some cool ones on eBay. The Arco floor lamp is still our top runner but we can’t afford the asking price so, yes, I’m afraid we’re going for a copy. In a way it’s a bit like fashion, I can’t afford to wear the real thing from top to toe, so I mix high street, vintage and designer in what I hope is a harmonious mix.

  3. Hi Kate
I bought the made.com one for a client and changed the shade for a more expensive one to ‘pimp it up a bit’. I went for it because it was a good price but also because I liked the base. I think it works really well in their living room (and i’m pretty sure you can alter the curve) but have to say it isn’t the most ‘solid’ i’ve seen but for that price i think it’s great.

completely different note but re your loft: I love the idea of your sliding doors and thinking could be an option for a project I’ve just won but I was worried re building regs and fire regs with regards to having a sliding door?

off to Grand designs at excel today so hoping someone there may be able to assist also re above but thought would ask 🙂

  4. Hi

I saw that G&G lamp when you posted about it before as am looking for a floor lamp. When you search only line that lamp, or ones that look pretty much identical to me come up at a variety of (lower) prices. So it might be worth shopping around – I’ve just checked and one company has it for £143 with free delivery. I know nothing about the company so won’t give the name. It might not be 100% the same but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I’m off on my (long continuing, getting boring fast) quest for a brass or part brass floor lamp. I’m not sold yet on the French connection one but there might be a possibility at west elm.

  5. Hi!
I like the made.com one but prefer the graham & green!!! They have 20% off at the moment from their catalogue! 🙂 xxmillyxx
