Mirror in the Bathroom

All those of you who can name that tune can have an extra biscuit…

I have been increasingly looking at round mirrors. I have never owned one. All my mirrors have always been rectangle. Especially in the bathroom where they are usually sitting above a shelf or in front of a cabinet. But now that I am about to design another bathroom I’m looking at round ones to go above the basin.

This is the king of round mirrors by Jacques Adnet. Sadly I think I will never be able to justify spending £500 on a mirror but I do like looking at it. And, as part of my job involves spending people’s money for them I can (if you permit the name drop) tell you that the delightful Professor Green instagrammed an image of this mirror recently after buying it for his own house. I showed him several alternatives after he asked for my help on Twitter but he eventually chose that one. He was right. It looks great hanging on his black wall.

That isn’t it by the way – that’s a shot from the Gubi website but you get the idea. Mind you it looks pretty good on a white wall too let’s be honest.

If you want one you can buy them from Occa Home or, if you can’t stretch to that – and I am wondering about buying a bath for £100 and spending the money on a mirror instead (that’s called budgeting that is) then how about this? It’s £19 for a small one and, apart from being rather beautiful, it isn’t a cheap lookalike, which I don’t want. It’s available from Not on the High Street and the large one is £38.

Or moving up a little to this one at £250 which is made from bamboo and is from Twenty Twenty One.

And finally this. From Mia Fleur with a rope handle. Which might be a little too self consciously nautical for a bathroom. Or, it might not. The black metal frame gives it a little more edge so it could work well in there.

Which one do you like?

That song, by the way, is Mirror in the Bathroom by The Beat. It was released in 1980. I remember it well. I am that old. And so, my dears, are some of you. x

  1. I’ve just got one from John Lewis – copper frame with a leather strap. Still sadly lying in it’s box waiting to be hung up. It was £60.

  2. Hi Kate
As soon as I saw this fine selection this morning I had to look at Ikea’s Stockholm mirror – team it up with a leather belt or length of rope: job done!

    1. Kate- love reading your posts- we seem to have similar diy missions! Actually I was already thinking of doing what Duncan suggested as a budget option – and spraying it black too…

  3. I’v been searching for the right mirror for my home, to bounce a little light on my navy walls – have seen a kit minus the mirror on etsy to make a diy verion of the Jacques Adnet. The zero bamboo are fab!
