Sticking with the home office – well it’s Friday, you’re still sitting at a desk so you might as well fantasise about creating the perfect one while you’re there.

The problem is that many of us either don’t have enough room for a large desk, or perhaps don’t need a large desk as it’s only for a bit of admin and computer surfing. This is where these spacesavers really come into their own. Desks that fit onto the wall and fold away into a discreet cupboard when not needed.

It’s such a good idea and one I think I might adapt or adopt. If you don’t like any of these then perhaps you could contact a local carpenter and get him to make one that would fit your particular bit of spare wall. The one below doesn’t fold away but it doesn’t take up much room and when it’s finished being a desk in the evening would look just as good with a lamp and a glass of wine sitting on it.

If you can’t find one that folds up into the wall, then one that has no legs but is fixed onto the wall is a good way of creating the illusion of more space. The more floor you can see the greater the sense of space. It’s a trick that’s commonly used in bathrooms with wall-mounted basins and loos.

Or, finally there is this one. Made in Germany by Chris + Ruby, you can store everything on the shelves and the leg just folds down to support it. It’s the same principle as the murphy above.
