Objects of Design #186: Snurk Bedding

Not only is it Monday morning but for many of us it’s the grand return to work (with school following in a couple of days). For that reason it seemed fitting to start the day with these fabulous duvet covers from Dutch company Snurk.

Snurk, which means snore in Dutch, says it is designed for horizontal living, which, at this time on a Monday morning certainly sounds very appealing. I’m not normally a fan of the stereotypical princess look but I’ll make an exception for this.

It’s as if the princess was having so much fun royalling about that she just lay down in all her finery (for just a tiny minute you understand) and fell asleep just like that.

snurk astronaut
or are you an astronaut?

It’s a look that might be harder to pull off as an astronaut as I should imagine those boots would be heavy but it’s still a great idea.

Of course you don’t have to be a princess or an astronaut. Meet Bob the dog who will curl up peacefully at the end of your bed and won’t need taking out for walks early in the morning. Below is the real life Bob between shots.

And if you’re not a dog person then Ollie the cat in the top image will also be happy to join you. Here he is posing for his close-up.

And here’s the finished item.

The company’s first design was the cardboard box duvet cover of which 40 per cent of the proceeds go to homeless charities throughout Europe. This was followed by the pavement sheet to go underneath and various other designs followed, including the invisible man which is, you guessed it, just a high quality plain white cotton cover.

So anyone for a duvet day? We can go back to work tomorrow.

  1. I LOVE these! I am particularly taken with the princess one and I am the least princessy person I know. Where can one buy them?
