Now this is a clever idea: a bookshelf with a built-in reading light. It’s made from plywood and an energy efficient LED light that also manages to give you a place to rest your book when you’ve finished reading for the night. How’s that for a multi-tasking bit of kit? Great for those long winter evenings when all you want to do is curl up in bed with a book.
Actually it’s all I want to do on those long summer evenings as well. Basically you take the book off the shelf to turn the light on and replace it to turn it off again. Simple (yes we’re done with meerkats now). And quite genius.
It was designed by Thijs Smeets, who of course designed it when he realised that he needed it: “I came up with the idea when lying in bed putting a book away on my bedside table. I thought what if I could like my book on my reading light. I took a pen and started sketching …”
The rest, as they, is history.
