Lighting is crucial when it comes to the dining or eating area. In an ideal world, you should probably have dimmers fitted. Failing that lamps on tables round the edges, fading to candles on the table. But a good pendant lamp is also essential. Not only do they look great and add focus to the room but, if you have a rise and fall one you can obviously change the height to fit the mood. Higher will give a more general “breakfast” light, lower it and it will create a more intimate feel. from £245
