Now this I want. Perfect for all those bits and bobs in a kitchen, it would also look great in a bathroom where the clutter really does seem to mount up. But I can also see it being very useful over a desk in either a home office or a child’s bedroom full of pens and paperclips and the like.

This one is by the Danish company House Doctor DK, but it would be disingenuous to ignore the fact that it was clearly inspired by a design classic, the Vitra Uten.Silo, which is one of the best known plastic designs of the 1960s.

Designed by Dorothee Becker (the wife of the designer Ingo Maurer) it is now manufactured by Vitra. The first one went on the market in 1969 and Becker said of her piece: “My father owned a drugstore and photo shop in Aschaffenburg. When I was a child there were countless drawers there full of fascinating things waiting to be discovered, including a hang-up toilet bag made of waxed cloth full of pockets for the various toiletries. The bag held items which would normally have been stored vertically in a horizontal position. I never forgot this practical idea and later used it in UTEN.SILO.

Which one will you want?
