T-Chair

t chairs by mogg

Aren’t these chairs fun? The black and white stripy one would be perfect in my son’s new bedroom. Or, for football-mad children (which mine aren’t) you could perhaps find stripes to match their football teams. The T chair was created by Annebet Philips, a Dutch designer, and launched at Milan a few weeks ago.

Now, not to be stereotypical, but the Dutch are very good at humour in design (think Droog with their milk bottle chandeliers, or Leitmotiv and the invisible book shelf made from a book) and as you know I like to introduce a talking point or something unexpected into a room.

You can choose from 16 different colours or combine them for the stripe option. The plain ones cost £450 from Go Modern, which is a lot I know – especially if you are putting it in a child’s room but let’s use the old shopping code here. A chair lasts a lifetime and that’s a lot of sits. So cost per sit over a long period of time….

Or let’s put it another way. My son’s room for example (if you leave out the roof and insulation) is basically a large sheet of MDF, some paint, some carpet and some labour. You could do the painting yourself and spend some money on a fabulous chair to really set the room off. It’s like adding a pair of killer shoes to an outfit.

Of course you don’t have to put it in a child’s room. You could just add one to a selection of kitchen chairs around the table. That way everyone gets to see it all the time and not just by appointment only – which is increasingly the arrangement with the older son’s bedroom.

While we’re on the subject of fun in interiors – and not to take a theme too far. What about these mirrors? Also by Mogg, an Italian company founded in 2012, prices start at £205 for the towel on the left. The t-shirt is £220.

  1. These are just brilliant – a great talking point! I totally agree, perfect for a children’s bedroom and can be justified with other less expensive pieces around the room such as ikea rugs and scatter cushions and simple painted furniture. Thanks for sharing! Lauren
