The Best Sofabed

Right then are you ready for this? For after three years of searching, several blog posts and a few uncomfortable (if not sleepless) nights I have found the one. Yes, behold, the sofabed of my dreams.

b_prodotti-146250-rel24d2b5a4e1cb4a7db1d4800bff9a0534There it is in all its glory. Now I appreciate this might not be the one of your dreams but it is mine and it’s for my house. Let me tell you why it’s brilliant!

The reason I love this is because, you may recall, I wanted something contemporary. Something that was more of a daybed in look than a traditional sofa. But all the daybeds I found were singles. This will be the main piece of furniture up in the loft which will be used mostly as an office and only occasionally as a bed so it had to look good as a sofa, which is what it will be 98 per cent of the time.

As it will be pretty much the only thing in the room it can be L-shaped. I can totally imagine lying on this with a magazine instead of sitting at the desk. Then, as you can see you can slide the pieces round to create a proper double bed. There is also a single version below and you can also have the two pieces separate so that you have the single sofa below with an ottoman/footrest/upholstered bench as well which means you can use it as two single beds if you want to.

If you want to see a little video they made on how it transforms between sofa and bed then here you are. It’s been shot in the warehouse and been viewed about 200 times – mostly by me (!) but it’s a neat mechanism.

Now you’d think I’d know exactly where I found this but I honestly can’t remember where I first saw it. But I discovered that it’s made by an Italian firm called Design You Edit and this is called BedBed. I found them on Twitter and made contact – that seems to be the best way as their website isn’t quite functional. They told me it would cost €2,300 and that they don’t, at the moment have a UK stockist. So mine is coming from Italy for an extra €250 shipping. It will be in a deep dark navy blue and I can’t wait to meet it.

  1. So how did the sofabed turn out? I’m on my own quest for one and this looks just about perfect. Thanks

    1. Hi Vicky, So I didn’t reply before because I hadn’t slept in it! Now I have. So, as a sofa I love it and its immensely comfortable. As a bed it’s a little hard but I think that will be find with a topper or another duvet underneath. It will probably only be used as a bed for about ten nights a year so that’s fine by us as it’s key function is as a sofa. I completely love the style of it and the fact that it can be one L-shaped sofa or one traditional and an ottoman as well as one double bed or two singles. All that functionality outweighs the slight hardness of the mattress for me. Does that help?

  2. I can literally hear how ‘happy’ you are as you have typed this feature Kate. Well done for not giving up and how satisfying that you have found it ! What lengths us crazy people go to to find an item. You knew it was out there !!!! I think it looks great but I do find the name BedBed very amusing ! I ordered our oven I had sourced from Italy and I still love it today so well done you 🙂

    1. Yes the name is odd – perhaps it sounds better in Italian: lettoletto. Or perhaps they thought it sounded cool in English! It should be here before the end of June … fingers crossed!
