Objects Of Design #139: Reiko Kaneko Lip Tease

Lipstick, powder and paint

British- Japanese ceramicist Reiko Kaneko takes a theme and makes it completely contemporary with this mug. Bone china has a reputation for being a little fuddy duddy, a little bit Gran, but she has taken that idea and run (very fast) with it to produce this range. Choose from either gold or platinum, teacups or mugs in this design or the more familiar drip tease series with a line of gold paint slides gently down the outside of the mug.

If this doesn’t seem familiar you might remember the plastic soliders holding the egg to ransom, or, my personal favourite, the Breakfast Express Train, but this bone china set marks a new departure for the artist.
