Objects Of Design #251: Heavy Desk Light By Benjamin Hubert

desk light made from wood and concrete

After all the pretty pink glass from Esther Patterson yesterday, it’s time for something a little more robust and so we turn to Benjamin Hubert and his heavy desk light.  It really is made from concrete and wood and was designed in 2008 for Decode London. The idea behind it was to challenge our perception of the value of materials and and encourage the potential of an otherwise industrial material.

Whatever Hubert’s thinking, he has created something rather gorgeous; simple with clean lines and obviously, this is one lamp that won’t tip over when you reach past to grab the phone and send the coffee flying.

Both versions come with a red flex and you can choose from either dark or light grey.
