When we were doing the kitchen up a couple of years ago, the question of what to do with the recipe books kept coming up. We have hundreds of them, far more than we ever use, but they are beautiful to browse through so we wanted to have them in the kitchen.

I remember sketching something very similar to these on the back of an envelope and thinking we could cover a whole wall with shelves like this snaking over it and then fill it with books. An alternative to hanging pictures if you like.

Sadly a radiator got in the way, although only after the planning department of the local council had refused us to build the room as wide as we had originally planned which meant there wasn’t really enough room to fill a wall with books.

But when I saw these shelves I was reminded and, for what it’s worth, I still think it’s a good idea.

fashionforhome.co.uk £249 for four shelves in three parts that can be assembled as you wish.
