Rory Dobner Designs

I am a huge fan of Rory Dobner’s work and, following the launch of his website late last year, he has been coming up with lots of new designs.

The site; rorydobner.com has not only all the old favourites (the cat in the monocle for me) but also new characters – look out for the smoking goldfish – which will appear on tote bags, teapots and trays, as well as the existing ranges of plates, mugs and cushions.

Recently I noticed the addition of a fabulous cat in a mask and also sporting a rather fetching teapot hat, which is a design I must instantly find a home for. I love his expression, which is one that Enid Cat often makes. Perhaps I should get her a hat.

Rory’s big break happened back in 2011 when a buyer at Liberty noticed one of his hand-drawn pictures in the background of a picture of his wife, Claire. The first drawings sold instantly and he now has his own dedicated area in the gift room which is filled with an ever expanding collection.

I don’t know where to start. Actually that’s not quite true – I shan’t know where to stop. Probably not until the bank manager calls and the card is blocked.

These pictures were taken by Loop Photography so, as ever, if you decide to pin or re-use them then please give them a link and a credit. It’s only fair. After all, we bloggers complain when unscrupulous companies nick our words and republish them and yet this happens to photographers all the time. And, plesae, if you recognise any of these images that appear on the blog, then do get in touch so I can credit them.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, spending money (no change there then). I think I shall start with a set of mugs. I have always loved the one with the cage and the question mark. And perhaps a tray to put them on…

Happy shopping people.

  1. These are brilliant. Looking forward to seeing them at Liberty when in London soon. Also, would it be too much to ask you for one or two resto recs in London? Overwhelmed by the choices – too many new ones since last visit. Nothing extra-posh as not packing for it but pricey ok (sort of). Would be super grateful…

  2. Fantastic – thanks for sharing these. I was very lucky to see Rory’s house and studio as part of this year’s LivingEtc House Tour. I love his mix of dark gothic and quirky – reflected in his designs and his home!
