Skultana is a Scandinavian shop – Swedish to be precise – and it sells nothing but brass and silverware. Is this perhaps the best shop in the world. Give or take a small exaggeration?
The company was founded more than 400 years ago when King Karl IX realised his long held plans for a Swedish brass industry. According to their website; refining copper into brass would reduce imports of brass and increase income from exports. The King sent a man off to find a suitable location for a brass foundry and he suggested Skultuna, where the Svartån brook provided sufficient water power. Charcoal was available here as well and the copper mine at Falun was also close. The factory is still here four centuries later.
It’s now one of the most visited tourism locations in Sweden with over 150,000 visitors a year and you can buy their pieces in the UK as luxury online store Amara announced last week that it is to start stocking Skultana.
The range will include candlesticks and tea light holders as well as book ends and other treasures. I could definitely find a home for a brass candlestick against my black walls. What about you?
I love those trays. They would be great as a wall feature instead of art!
Those Lara Bohinc designed tealight holders are stunning!
love the candlesticks and planters, perfect for herbs in my kitchen.
