Task lights, reading lamps, desk lights, call them what you will, you need some. Creating the right lighting in a room is about adding layers that can be used in different combinations. Sometimes an overhead, sometimes a gentle wall light, sometimes a few table and floor lamps. Or combinations of all three.

A couple of carefully angled lights in a room can show off a picture, allow you to read the crossword or create a soft pool of light in a corner.

They don’t always have to be on a table but we are focusing on that here.

I also find that I am moving quietly towards aged brass or old gold as a colour. It looks fantastic with grey, as you can see in the main picture, and creates a slightly more grown up feel to the industrial look.

Finally, this aged brass one from John Lewis is very good value.

What a great selection. Task lights can be so hard to find (at the right price). Will definitely be taking a closer look a the John Lewis offering next time I’m in their store.
