I do love a touch of wit in a home. Something to raise a smile when you see it and, all the more so, when it’s unexpected. That’s why this new wallpaper from Cole & Son is so cool. I love the idea that these two cats (who are called Paddy and Louis by the way) and a tiny mouse, which I have only just noticed – see the image below – hiding up on the cornicing and peering down at the room below.
It’s 34cm high and comes in a seven metre roll with the pattern repeating twice. I have to say I think I would probably only have Paddy and Louis once in the room as I think it’s funnier that way. I really fancy this in the sitting room where the gap between the picture rail and the existing cornicing is probably about 34cm. No, I’m not climbing up there to measure, I’m basically guessing.
Also included in the new Whimsical collection, which is based on classic childhood stories and fairy tales is this rather lovely stars paper. It’s very subtle but the navy blue (so on trend) with the gold stars would look great in a kids room. Actually scrub that, it would be fantastic in any bedroom.
Oh, oh, oh I have just remembered that I was looking for a cool navy paper for my bedroom. It’s currently a gorgeous deep aubergine which is picked up in the bathroom next door but I was thinking of switching over to navy and stalled because I couldn’t find the right paper. Well klaxon alert. There it is right under my nose.
Stars are perfect for an adult bedroom because we basically only go in there at night so they don’t need to double up as playrooms or day rooms, as it were. I also love the way the stylist (creative director Shauna Dennison) has papered the skylight too.
Next in the collection, and next to the rather large Polar Bear (seriously who now doesn’t want a giant Polar Bear in their bedroom) is Melville. No prizes for guessing the inspiration behind that one. As well as this mid-grey it also comes in a much darker version. Actually it’s called stormy midnight, cloudy grey and there’s a bronze version too.
Finally, but not the last one in the collection, is this fish paper Nautilus. Now you’d have to have some courage to go for this one but it would look great if you did have the right space for it.
Can you see the mouse in the picture below? Stupid cats have no clue where it is. Bit like Enid, who seems to see a mouse, tell us it’s there and then swans off shopping.
Paddy and Louis is £78 a roll and you can order it from here.
I think the stars wall paper is Barneby Gates, lovely witty wallpapers. Loving the cat and mouse game 🙂
