As you may have noticed recent posts have been edging slightly away from grey and towards navy and I note, from the comments I receive (many more on Twitter) that lots of you are going in that direction too.
The other day, I published a post about a silver and grey rug (in leather since you ask) which prompted one reader, Melanie to ask about a dark blue rug.
“I wondered if you had ever come across in your travels a rug which blends copper and blue (maybe with some white?) I’ve been rethinking our bedroom and planning on Stiffkey Blue walls with maybe some copper touches and looking for a rug that fits,” she wrote.
A couple of days later, following the 10 Beautiful Rooms post, when I mentioned that I was thinking of replacing the Farrow and Ball Pelt wall in my bathroom (see below) with Stiffkey Blue, Charlotte wrote in to say that she had the tester pot but hadn’t quite summoned up the courage to use it. To which I say Go go go.
The only thing I’m waiting for is that the bedroom has some wallpaper in a similar colour (Persian Tulip by Zoffany) and I need to find something fabulous, dramatic and navy blue for that wall…
Anyway, I thought I would use today’s post to investigate rugs for Melanie, and anyone else who is thinking of taking the navy plunge and wants to find accessories to go with it.
Given the lack of copper in rugs I have found, I would suggest buying copper lights (plenty of those about) and changing the flex to a twisted navy blue cord.
brilliant blues, I’m going with a midnight blue at home and have been looking for some interesting rugs.
My god, thank you so much! I certainly wasn’t expecting such a personal response….I’m so grateful. I adore all of them but that west elm one at the top looks ABSOLUTELY perfect. A trip to the store may be in order I think which is always a pleasure!
Once again, thank you for spending time on my query….and with rug in place there’s not much holding me back from going bold with Stiffkey Blue!!

Hurray! So glad you like them. Enjoy your new blue space….
Design House Stockholm have a mat called Björk (Birch). The design is based on the trunks of Birch trees. We have two of them in dark grey. I see they are now available in blue and green as well as the light and dark grey. I just love the blue one and think you will too.
