Have you come across Schoolhouse Electric? They’re an American company which I have kept an eye on for some time but have held off writing about as their site mentions only US delivery and I know that many of you are in Europe and the UK.

But I can resist no longer. Not least because of this wonderful brass shelf and gorgeous wall lights, but also because I have spoken to them and they happily ship things all over the world. Obviously you have to factor the cost of that into your budget, but if it’s something that you can’t find over here (so far I have yet to find a brass shelf like this) and love and want then it’s worth knowing about.

Look at it in this bathroom against the navy blue tiles. In an ideal world I’d have a brass tap too, but it still works without. The company has a factory in Portland, Oregon, where it makes its own products but it also stocks plenty of other lovely things.

Their lighting designs are based around styles from the turn of the 20th century to the late 1940s and you can mix and match the shades and fittings to find something that suits you. Of course, when it comes to the lighting you will need to rewire for the UK or European sockets, which is annoying but not the end of the world.

There are lots of other gorgeous pieces to browse around, and be inspired by, for your own home. I am definitely going to look into the cost of shipping the brass shelf. I fancy one either side of the bed. Or perhaps against the black walls of the sitting room.
