Diversity in Interior Design: One Year On

Podcast week and over on the show Sophie and I are discussing that renovation  - the one in Downing Street. Such is the timing of these things that the first time we recorded this conversation it wasn’t even a story and we mentioned it only in passing idly wondering what it might look like a

Beautiful Rooms: Panelling for All

elegant panelling via @alicegraceinteriors
This week I have fallen down the rabbit hole that is panelling. There's no doubt that it's everywhere at the moment and I have succumbed in my own house in my newly redecorated office. That said it's one of those classics that is having a moment (like brass) rather than a fad that will pass

The Househunter: A 16th Century Farmhouse

Now, first of all, before we get into this house a word about the house with the controversial staircase. The architect emailed me the other day to say he was loving the post and all the chat - he admitted the stairs were very Marmite - and suggested we have a chat about well, the

This week on the podcast I interview Drew Pritchard, an architectural antiques dealer, on turning his passion into a career both on and off-screen. As the star of TV’s Salvage Hunters, Drew says it’s all about the thrill of the chase rather than the selling of his finds. He shared his tips on shopping for

The Househunter: The Thinnest House in England (probably)

I have always thought of my house as a narrow London terrace although at 17ft wide it feels significantly wider than my previous London terrace which was 15ft wide. Both of these those are spacious compared with today's property which comes in at just 5ft 6ins wide. Which means I could barely lie across it.

Monday Inspiration: Colour Blocking and Clever Ways with Paint

pink and yellow by colourist emilie fournet interiors
From Friday neutrals to Monday's (muted) brights and I hope you like these rooms that I have found to show you today. While I may not enjoy the zingy brights of a clean colour palette I'm all over lots of intense but muted colours; you know the ones that have a dollops of grey in

The Househunter: Rural Gardens in the Heart of the City

This is the last post for July and I will be taking August off to recharge the, somewhat, depleted brain cells. That said there will be a couple of podcast posts as well as details of a bathroom I have styled so keep your eyes out for that. And, of course, those of you who

For all the fact that the days are blurring into one they seem to be going really fast don't they? Just me? I can't believe the podcast has come around again so fast. This week we were supposed to travel to Shropshire to meet furniture restorer, upcycler, sustainable designer and, more recently, television presenter Jay

The Househunter: Room by Room – the perfect one bedroom flat

I adore this little flat. From the way it has been decorated to the pretty pink walls outside. It's a one bedroom flat in Bristol and it's on the market for £350,000 with The Modern House. If the 19yo were studying in Bristol instead of Manchester.... But he isn't -  not that anyone is studying

Monday Inspiration: Warm Neutrals

cream and brown tones by claire menary at redchurch townhouse
Last week's beautiful rooms post was all about using strong colours, so this week I have swung the pendulum back the other way - because there is no right or wrong answer - to look at some gorgeously pared back interiors full of natural materials and textures and all of which I find incredibly restful

Starting today with a bright burst of yellow as the clocks went back yesterday in the UK and although I'm typing this on a beautifully sunny Autumn morning (albeit with no idea what time it actually is) it might all have gone to winter by the time you are reading this in 24 hours time.

Let's not even start with the weather... actually how do we not? Was watching Killing Eve last night (anyone else?) and it's not a spoiler to say that when she turns up in England - Basildon to be precise - it was clear that that was filmed last summer as the grass was completely brown.

The Househunter: Cottage Style

So many of you have asked me to feature cottages and it's difficult to find ones that are pretty enough to show off but with valid ideas that might inspire those of you who are struggling with low ceilings, small windows and sloping floors. But I have found one. This former village hall may not
